Project Description

Cinc is a resto lounge completed in mid 2015, situated on the roof top of an existing hotel in a busy suburb of Bangalore. The site measured 3500 sqft in total and the program given to us was to accommodate a 100-seater dining with a bar and live kitchen. The cuisine served at the restaurant was coastal South Indian. We used this as a design lead and took inspiration from typical coastal architecture and gave it a contemporary outlook.

On arrival in the reception, the user is greeted in a space with a louvered wooden cube reminiscent of the verandah of a typical coastal residence. The reception is flanked by the bar to the left and fine dine to the right. The bar has a more informal low seating approach with all the furniture made out of recycled wood. The fine dine is divided further in to 2 zones. The island seating is in an open to sky courtyard with bamboo pergola filtering the light coming through. The other zone of seating is along the periphery of the site with a view of the lovely rain trees towering around the site . Natural and locally available materials were used to keep the project cost-efficient.

The south-west and the west are wrapped with wooden slats and planter boxes which serve as shading devices from the sun, as well as work as sound barriers . The floors were cast on site in concrete with beer bottle chips and glass spacers and polished to mirror finish . The beer bottle chips in the floor sparkle at night when the lights are turned on giving it a different dimension. The walls are dadoed in grey slate giving it a monolithic appearance . The soft turquoise blue fabric used breaks the monotonic appearance otherwise.

The green landscape in the periphery merges the restaurant with the rain trees around almost making it a seemless transition.
